The Interconnection- Business and Nature – Part 1

Albert Einstein on of the most intellegent people ever to live said,

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

Why are the the current environmental and economic systems floundering?Could it be that indeed we separate the too and do not consider the whole? While the economy and the environment appear to be very different, even at odds with each other, the fact remains they are actually deeply interconnected. Adapting to nature’s ways, means being better stewards of the earth, the only planet we have. By making the connection in our life and in business undoubtedly making the world a better place.

A few terms and words to add to your daily consciousness and vocabulary to help with the interconnection to widen our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

Regenerate: (of a living organism) regrow (new tissue) to replace lost or injured tissue. Nature and human nature are in desperate need of repair. It is not enough to be sustainable anymore. Our species along with so many other species are in distress and require regenerative compassionate solutions.

Systems thinking: A holistic approach to analysis that focuses on the way that a system’s constituent parts interrelate and how systems work over time and within the context of larger systems. It’s time for business of every kind to integrate solutions and work with the larger systems; to take responsibly and action to strategically collaborate in order to regenerate our economy, ecology and humanity.

Ecosystem: A biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment. The integration of the right organisms into a community of living things is essential to regenerate life. A healthy ecosystem is diversified, in balance, and can thrive as can a healthy community with a diversified economy.

There are two major ecosystems, terrestrial or aquatic and with in that there are multiple sub- ecosystems the work together to create a larger collaborative system. The river and the river bank each have their own ecosystems yet are interdependent on the other for their survival. They work together guiding the flow of the water, the water nourishes the life on the river bank and surrounding land mass. Building a community, and its economy we must do the same in order to flow successfully, Respecting and appreciating the strengths and differences without manipulating the critical systems ability to function in balance.

The desert and the tropics offer distinctly diverse and different environments, specializing in what they do best. Location Location Location is a key phrase among the business community. It’s important to pay close attention to this strategy even if you are running an online company. How and where you position a business is as important as where you plant a palm tree.

A well managed bio diversified farm is a good example of a human participating in an ecosystem development. When run properly, in harmony with the balance of nature, it produces an abundances and works in conjunction with the natural environment. It is reliant on the systems and cycles of nature. Leveraging your business concept with ecosystem-systems thinking, you are able to have a thriving business that supports the whole. Understanding that whatever your produce comes from the earth’s finite resources belonging to future generations is paramount. Be mindful, be an Ecosystem Engineers: An Organism that creates, modifies and maintains habitat. Ecosystem engineering can alter the distribution and abundance of large numbers of plants and animals, and significantly modify biodiversity (Jones et al. 1994; 1997; Wright et al. 2002; Lill and Marquis 2003). The best known examples of ecosystem engineers are humans (Homo sapiens). That would be us. I urge you to study ecology and there you will find the tools necessary to grow a thriving soil to soul contributing business.

Please Check out The Biomimicry Institute. They empower people to create nature-inspired solutions for a healthy planet.“Mimic nature with biomimicry, the combination of biology and design to transform products, spaces, structures, and systems to solve human challenges.

Leonardo da Vinci studied bats and birds in designing his flying machines. The Wright brothers nearly three centuries later leveraged the genius of Leonardo and designed the first airplane. Both brilliant minds observed the systems and cycles of nature. Buckminster Fuller started the modern discourse on organic design that continues today in the exploration of new approaches, using biomimicry.

What would it mean to you to make a difference? I urge you to study ecology and there you will find the tools necessary to grow a thriving soil to soul contributing business.
